Bordeaux’s water mirror
Bordeaux’s water mirror or ‘Miroir d’eau’ in French is probably one of the most visited places in the city. Personally, it is one of my favorite attractions since I began to live in the city of wine.
It is a magical place that reflects the beauty of the ‘Place de la Bourse’ in front of it. The ‘miroir d’eau’ is the perfect place for kids wanting to play, for people who want to escape the heat of the summer and of course for those Instagram photo lovers!
It is one of the main attraction for both tourists and Bordelais. Built in 2006, it was part of a project to renovate the whole city after being a commercial port for so long.
This reflecting pool (water mirror) fills with water starting 10 Am every morning until 10 PM. You can get there by using Tram line C and stopping at ‘place de la bouse’ station.
In the past, this area was home to big warehouses where all merchandising arriving through the Bordeaux port were stocked. Bordeaux was known to be the ‘port of the moon’ and had hundreds of ships docking. It all began during the 18th century after the walls surrounding the city were demolished and it opened up to the world.
Due to these commercial activities, the city became very polluted. It wasn’t until 1995 that the project of renovating the city and giving it its sparkle again took place. The water mirror was one of the important steps of this project.
